Folklore group Ritingo were founded in the autumn of 2010. Led by its artistic director, ethnomusicologist Arvydas Kirda, the band performs traditional and modified Lithuanian folk music. The members of the band are very fond of vocal and instrumental sutartinės (an ancient Lithuanian tradition of polyphonic music) and various dances. The group's leader describes Ritingo as a progressive folklore band.
The band also increasingly performs Lithuanian folk songs arranged and remade in the styles of folk-jazz and world music by Kirda and fellow band member Marius Kačiulis. Mellow and exquisite musical consonances, soft guitar backing and the richness of Lithuanian folklore conveyed through quiet vocal sounds, as well as a compelling interaction between folk and modern music, are only part of what listeners can find in Ritingo's compositions.
